Greater Minnesota Housing Fund (GMHF) is Minnesota’s leading nonprofit affordable housing lender. More than just a lender, GMHF is known for its innovation and its creative approaches to Minnesota’s affordable housing challenges. GMHF is certified by the Department of Treasury as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1996 to address the affordable housing needs of Minnesota’s under-served areas including cities, towns, rural areas, and tribal nations. GMHF is rated AAA+2 by Aeris and is a member of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines. GMHF has awarded more than $270 million and leveraged more than $1 billion in capital investments over its 20-year history. GMHF operates a $42 million development loan fund for affordable housing pre-development, acquisition, construction, bridge and longer-term amortizing permanent loans for tax increment financing and first mortgage financing. GMHF’s loans and grants have supported the creation and preservation of over 14,100 affordable homes across Minnesota. In addition to its development loan fund, GMHF operates Minnesota Equity Fund (MEF), an equity investment vehicle for socially motivated investors to finance affordable housing. To date MEF has provided over $110 million in social equity for 22 tax credit developments, creating over 1,100 affordable homes. The NOAH Impact Fund is the newest fund launched by GMHF. Through this fund, GMHF helps preserve the affordability of naturally occurring affordable housing for low-income working families and seniors.
