Greater Metropolitan Housing Corporation was formed in 1970 by the Minneapolis business community with the primary purpose of improving the availability and quality of affordable housing for low and moderate income families in the Greater Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. GMHC provides a predevelopment revolving loan fund of $11.869,000 for the development of affordable multifamily housing developments; builds and/or renovates single family homes; operates three neighborhood HousingResource Centers (HRC) which provide loans and rehab assistance to the community; and five years ago became a mortgage broker and created SHOP Home Mortgage providing mortgage lending to the community, along with a new Contract-for-Deed program for buyers with credit or other issues keeping them out of the typical mortgage programs. GMHC has provided over $70 million in predevelopment loans for the construction of nearly 26,000 units of affordable housing; built and/or renovated 1,806 single family homes (purchased and renovated over 460 foreclosures); and our HRCs provided serivces to 248,146 clients including 92,162 construction/rehab consultations, and closed on 10,204 rehab and/or down payment assistance loans.
